Michael Collins, Headingley Rugby Voices: the 1994 Challenge Cup Final experience

We went to Wembley in 1994 and stopped at a pub on the way back in Leicester just off the motorway.

The following year we did exactly the same, down to London, defeated in the Cup Final and back to this same pub.

A local rugby union player from some village team in Leicestershire came up to me and said, 'Were you here around this time last year?' I looked at him a bit suspiciously just in case there was an unpaid round of drinks or we had broken some ornamental vase before admitting we had but why did he ask. He replied that he could remember getting very drunk with some people from Leeds but that was all and was it us.

When I confirmed that it was we ended up having a repeat performance.
