Leeds made a big money signing in early 1961 when Brian Shaw arrived from Hunslet.
It stands out in my mind because it was so unexpected. He was already an international and his signing was quite spectacular. It was secured in secret on a Saturday morning and in the afternoon he turned out at Headingley against Leigh.
The first we knew of it was when he ran out in a Leeds shirt. There was a collective intake of breath when we realised because he was so well respected and his debut coincided with a superb run of form that took us to our first ever Championship victory.
