Paul Hicks: Syd Hynes

Ah memories of Leeds Rugby League ( The Loiners) there's so many but my all time hero was the great Syd Hynes, a world class centre tough as teak and so skilful.

An incident that's sticks in my mind was a game played at Salford in the cup in the mid 70s when Syd got the ball 20 yards out from the Salford line under the posts and ran out to his right towards the corner with half the Salford team running after him and getting him down near the corner flag, but Syd had been so skilful nobody had seen his inside pass to Alan Smith who walked under the posts without a Salford hand being placed on him.

The work of a genius on the pitch .

I often now get my collection of old tapes and dvds with games going right back to the 1940s out and watch some of those great times again. Memories yes, and good ones
