Marc Grant, Headingley Rugby Voices: my first match, Leeds v. Oldham

My devotion to Leeds comes from my family, especially my grandmother who was secretary of the RFL for thirty-five years, her husband and my dad - who has followed the team for most of his life.

I've always felt something passionate for this team because I have been brought up through it. My first match was when I was two, I came to Headingley on 1st January 1982 when Leeds played Oldham. I sat in the middle of the main stand and in the run-up to the game I ran on to the pitch and shouted, 'I want to play with the big boys'.

At half-time my dad drove me home, threw me through the front door and was back before the restart. I was an absolute nuisance but the love affair had begun. It probably started even before that because my grandpa had a Leeds shirt made for me even before I was born!
