I’ll always recall the day David Creasser made his full league debut for Leeds because it coincided with me getting my cat.
A work colleague had a litter of kittens to give to good homes and I had just moved into my first flat and said I’d have one. I asked where he lived and he said Sandal, which was convenient as that weekend we were due to play just down the road at Wakefield Trinity.
I was excited all day by both events and set off for the ground with a new cat basket. The game was marked out by Creasser’s superb performance, he scored a wonderful hat-trick of tries and we won by a point.
I had just enough time to celebrate before picking up my new addition, a delightful six-week old black and white moggy. We toyed with calling him Creasser but eventually settled for something more banal.
Ironically he has been around longer than David, who would have been one of the all-time Leeds greats if he had not had terrible luck with shoulder injuries.
