There are two vivid recollections from Headingley in the 1930s, the fire of 1932 and the only game ever played on the cricket pitch in 1938.
I was there that Easter that the old North Stand caught fire whilst we were playing Halifax, standing behind the posts.
It was both frightening and exciting to see the way it was demolished so quickly.
There was no panic, everything was very orderly and calm and there was a kind of reverential quiet as the structure gradually became more gutted.
The Christmas Eve game against Salford on the cricket ground was thrilling and fascinating.
The rugby pitch was frozen I think and the decision was made to play it on the other side. The crowd packed round the perimeter and we were all out in the open, there was no cover against the elements, but because there were so many hemmed in together there was a warmth against the chill.
