A collection of memories: Coaching and playing Junior and Colts Rugby at Acklam RUFC

Taking 2 junior sides through from U11 to Colts which gave me great enjoyment and satisfaction. Ray Rowling, Acklam RUFC

It was just before Christmas 1996 my mate said he was going rugby training at Acklam rugby club. I had nothing better to do on Tuesday night. So I thought what the hell I'll give it a go. I jump on my push bike off I went. I meet this very caring gentlemen Jim Ward who I owe a lot to. He made me feel very welcome and explained a lot to me. From that day I was hooked on rugby. I went to play for Great Britain Colleges, Newcastle Falcons u17, Yorkshire age grade, paras, infantry, army, combine services. Wharfedale 1st team, Orrell.

Thanks Acklam Rugby, Jim Ward thank you very much for your help Gareth Lodge

My favourite memory is when the Acklam U14’s got into the Durham Final but sadly we lost. Ollie, Acklam RUFC

I started playing rugby in Acklam aged about 8 or 9 years old, then began to play properly in flank at number 8 position for my early years. I think my proudest memory is when I was getting to the point where I was going for Yorkshire trials, but unfortunately I was introduced to beer and women at that time and so it didn’t go much further than that! Mad Dabs, Acklam RUFC

I play in number 9, as scrum half. I came to Acklam in year six, and my first and favourite memory of playing here is when I scored eight tries. One time my brother was playing and got slammed and dropped on his head which sent him to hospital which I found funny. Nathan Feind, Acklam RUFC

I came to Acklam Rugby Club in 1987. I started as a Junior and we were introduced to all the older players - those who are still here today. Ian Potter, Acklam RUFC

First time I came here was in 1979 I was on Acklam's First Colts team, we were still at the Endeavour. I came all the way through and played on the First team when I was 17, I was proud to play for the First team. Ian “Nogger” Rodden, Acklam RUFC

I've never played rugby however watching my son play for Acklam coming all the way from Juniors to the First team has been great. My proudest moment was when he made his debut for the First team. David
