A Collection of playing memories

I came to Acklam in 1979 as a second row. My first memory of the club is playing out of the Endeavour pub, playing my first game for the first team in Ripon. I was the proudest when I played for Yorkshire Colts. Paul Appleton

I was a founding member of the club in 1970s. My first memory was playing the first game for the first team and catching the ball. I was beating a couple of blokes and running towards what I thought was the post but it was actually the dead ball line. Ray Rowling

I came to Acklam about five years ago as a second row. My favourite memory is when we won the league with the Talbots. Andrew Brewer

I played for Sunderland College of Education Langham towers back in 1973-1976. I was invited to play at Acklam in 1986. My favourite memory is a kick I made against York from the centre of the park – it dropped and went out of play just before the touchline. I was proud to score a hat-trick of tries in the Sevens competition over in Hartlepool. James Price

I play in second row. I came to Acklam in 2011 and my first memory is scoring a hat-trick in training but my favourite memory is in the quarter final against Bishop Auckland, I scored a try in the last minute. In the final of the Durham play I was Man of the Match which is my proudest moment. One time we lent one of our players out and he ended up scoring four tries and winning against us! Mack Leston

I played on the First team for about fifteen years, then on to captain of the Second team then to Talbots. My first memory here is training with the first team and being run over by a big prop called Ian Robinson! My favourite memory has to be winning the league with Colin White as coach. Ian 'Nogger' Rodden

My favourite memory of rugby is playing in a match in Scotland with four internationals in it - one playing for us, three for them, we got thrashed! Beaten 59-4 and it was a four point try in those days! Phil Broomhead

I play in position number 12. I came to Acklam Rugby Club two years ago, I scored against Bishop Auckland in my debut match. My proudest memory is scoring against Middlesbrough, obviously! Jez Pearce

My favourite memory of playing rugby was scoring my first try, it was against Boro, Bear

My favourite memory is when we were playing the quarter final against Bishop Auckland and I scored at the last minute and won to semi finals. I got man of the match for that game! Louwen Labonete

The away games travelling all piled into the Elta Plastics van, the drubbing at Wharfedale, my Debut for the first team at Wath, the record win against Darlington RA and my short lived "comeback" at 40 Squibs

Using the rolling maul as a way to win at 7s !!! John Haddon

I love playing rugby with all my teammates – the lads, my friends. I was so proud of my two tries in a league game that won us the game. John Lidburner
