I remember every Sunday morning, we played on a Saturday, we were out building the road for the original club house. The structure was from Wilton golf club, we took it down and stored it in one of the guys' garages, he had a car business at Thornaby, and we had to transport it over. My job was wheelbarrowing stuff up and down and putting kerb stones in the road. We did this every Sunday morning for months in '81/'82. It was a lot of hard work but once the club house was built we felt like we had our own home because before it we were over at the Endeavour in Acklam. Anon
I'm a founder member of the club and joined as centre when the club was formed in 1976. I remember building our first wooden hut, we bought Wilton Golf Club, took it to bits, and built it here on the site, before it got burnt down. Ray Kelly
I came here as my dad was one of the founding members, I have a picture somewhere of me in a JCB digging the foundations for the rugby club, so I’ve been coming here pretty much all of my life. It's been great to watch the club grow and go up. Mad Dabs
I started playing for Acklam Rugby Club when I was about 19/20 in the days when it was Constantine College before it became Teesside Polytechnic, and we used to play in Towsbury Road and the Acklam Moors side. We found out that when we were Teesside Poly, and eventually the university, we were restricted as to who could actually play. So we moved to Acklam rugby club and found that a lot more people were interested in coming to play for us. In my first memories of Acklam, I was playing for Constantine but Acklam itself would first be playing at Acklam Hall pitches on Sandy Flats. Anon
I was secretary of the club for five years then Chair for three. I was involved with the club from the beginning - it started in April '76 and I joined in the September. Phil Broomhead
Our 1st game in black green & white - Tynedale away (the result unimportant) John Haddon
We started coming to rugby clubs about two years ago. We’re sponsors of Acklam . My first memory is coming on a sponsors day – it was good. I love seeing all the lads in the kits that we’ve produced for them! Sian
My memory is not that old ,just a few years (seasons). It is the warm ,friendly welcome that I was given the first and every time I walk into the club . Arthur Thompson
