In 1956 Leeds RL were drawn to play Wigan in the Challenge Cup just before kick off there were over 38,000 inside Headingley when the wooden fence at the Kirkstall Lane end collapsed fortunately there was no serious injury, however me and mates were moved by the police to the front of the South Stand on to the straw that had protected the pitch against frost.
I remember the great Billy Boston rampaging down the touch line on his way to score two identical tries just a few inches in front of me. Thankfully Leeds won and when the final whistle went I jumped up in the air, but lost my bus fare money and had to walk home!
