Keith Ireland: 1988, Paul Cullen v. Andy Goodway

Amongst many from Wilderspool, you can't beat (Ok, maybe that's the wrong word!) the New Years Day 'war' of 1988 between the Wire and Wigan. My favourite memory has to be Paul Cullen's little encounter with Andy Goodway. It's my favourite memory for a few reasons - Paul was in my class at school, it was funny (well it is now, although at the time I remember thinking something else!) and it happened right in front of us.

Goodway flattened Cull off the ball, and Paul lay flat out in the turf, not moving. Goodway was sent off, and on the way off the field he appeared to tread on Culls hand. Like a phoenix from the flames, Cullen leapt up, ran after Goodway and flattened him. Ah, those were the days! If you haven't seen it, it's on you tube. Check it out.
