Allan Bolton: Brian Bevan

I watched Brian Bevan play his first game for Warrington A team back in about 1946 when I was 14. I stood on the side opposite to the main stand and in the first half he was on the opposite side. All that I could see was this 'old ' man who, given the ball seemed to be sidestepping far too early before the defender but still beating him. In the second half he had little to do until the very last minute when Warrington won a scrum on their own line at the Fletcher Street end. The ball was moved along the line until Bevan received it almost under his own posts. He then curved outside all the opposition to score under the posts at the opposite end.

But for that last minute we may never have signed him!
