Lee Stephens: meeting Wolfie

I left my hometown in 1973 at 18, having enjoyed watching as a lad and then some brief action as a player at Wilderspool in my late teens.

I returned for a meeting with Andy Gatcliffe in the first year at the HJ and commented on how much I enjoyed the antics of the mascot, and what he contributed to the matchday entertainment. He gave me a brief insight into man in wolf's clothing, without revealing his identity.

Imagine my amazement when I bumped into Wolfie on a holiday flight a couple of years later. Although at the time he didn't thank his wife for blowing his cover, we have remained great friends since that day. So thank you Wolfie, for the rubber chicken & Ikea bag, the dismissive expressions as the oppo take the field and the flirting with any female pre-match entertainment - oh and the undie slogans!!!
Respect......especially for your anonymity!!!!!
