Bob Norman: my first match, Warrington with Brian Bevan and Terry O'Grady v. Featherstone Rovers

How I became a WIRE .

As a young lad of 11 yrs of age in the sixties I used to listen to my dad, grandad, and uncles talking about the Warrington matches they had been to, who scored, who played well ,who had a poor game and so on. I used to take all this in, and one players name kept coming up in conversation BRIAN BEVAN.

I would ask my Dad every week could I go the match to see Brian Bevan he would tell me I was too young, in the end my Grandad said he will take me the next home game. This was against Featherstone Rovers and I was going to see the great BRIAN BEVAN . I can remember the game now 50 yrs on, Wilderspool Stadium, the smell of winter green, the Fletcher End, the scoreboard, the Popular Side, it seemed so big then. When the players came out I asked which is BEV this one here my grandad said. He looked too old to me anyway the WIRE won and our winger scored 5 tries that day his name no, not Bev, but Terry O'Grady.

From that day I was hooked I have watched the boys in Primrose and Blue ever since
