John Parkinson: 1965 Challenge Cup, Warrington v. Swinton

One of my first memories of watching the "Wire" was in the Challenge Cup in 1965. They had already beaten Hull and Salford and I really fancied their chances for Wembley this year as they faced Swinton at a packed Wilderspool.

On this day myself, dad and brother managed to squeeze into the score box end behind the goals. As I was only 11 at the time, viewing from the back was difficult.

I was in agony all through the second half with stomach ache and Ken Gower made things worse by kicking Swinton to a 1 point win. At the end, I was rushed to the doctors and then the Infirmary as my appendix was whipped out just before it burst!

A very painful day all round!
