Dave Cooper: 1974 Challenge Cup semi-final

1974 Challenge Cup semi final

I'd seen the Wire lose semis in both 1969 and 1972 but as the 73/74 season progressed we were all aware that something special was happening at Wilderspool. Dewsbury had beaten us in the championship semi final the year before and as defending champions were a formidable side not to be underestimated. I remember it being a tight first half but Wire always had their noses in front and with 15 minutes left we were obviously Wembley bound

I've seen many fantastic matches in the 47 years since I first saw a game at Wilderspool and could easily pick many others but the feeling after that semi of realising I was actually going to Wembley for the first time was amazing
