Richie Myler: a career memory of two Challenge Cup Finals

A moment which will stay with me for the rest of my life has to be the feeling of been left out of a Challenge Cup final!

I remember it as clear as yesterday. Tony (Smith) always pulls the players to one side individually at training a few days before the game. So when he called me over I hoped for good news... unfortunately for me that was not the case. The words "I'm sorry Rich but I have some bad news for you" felt like someone had just ripped my stomach straight out of me.

I couldn't look him in the eye, I was distraught and felt like my world had ended!! Playing at Wembley had been my dream since I ever saw my first game of rugby and to get so close I thought that was my chance gone.

I had to wait 2 more years before I got another chance to play at Wembley and this time Tony came with great news and I was in!

We won and if I'm honest, missing out the first time made it so much sweeter!!! So you could say Tony had a plan all along ha ha!
