Andy Wainwright: 1992, Pontypool v Llanelli, Welsh Cup Quarter Final

Pontypool v Llanelli, Welsh Cup Quarter Final, 4 April 1992

It was a lovely sunny spring afternoon. Having seen that this match was being played, my wife and I decided that an afternoon out at Pontypool Park would be wonderful. So we set off and parked near the southern entrance to the park. As was normal at the venue tickets were sold at the entrance of the park, and with it being 20 to 30 minutes or so from kick-off a shortish queue had formed which we joined.

Whilst we were patiently waiting we noticed three gentleman walk up the queue, have a quick word with the ticket sellers and walk straight through. We were a bit puzzled as to why but then the three turned back (to buy programmes I think) and they were: Barry John, JJ Williams and Gerald Davies. I can't remember much about the game (Llanelli won) but the moment the three turned around still sends me a bit shivery.
