Something that made a big impression on me was that Huddersfield had the initiative to send players to the youth clubs in Huddersfield. Johnny Hunter came down to our club.
He was a fantastic player – flamboyant and nonchalant at the same time. He would run at the ball to catch it on the burst, at speed, and his timing was absolutely superb. With full backs you’d always look at them for statistics because they were goal-kickers as well, but Johnny was a try-scorer as well and a really good entertainer.
Then there was Pat Devery. When Devery pulled his hands back a big roar went down the terrace on the stand side because the ball was going to go to Lionel Cooper, and Cooper scored tries.
